Here is a list of some of my copyrighted work. These are very early and I was fortunate to be given a lot of latitude in writing them. I'll put more of this up as time permits, if only because a few are period pieces. None were written to a brief, other than to fill a 500-650 word opinion slot. All articles are unsubbed originals, so apologies for any typos
| The mythology of property cycles | First published piece, attacking the idea that the property market (and I suppose by implication, economies) behave in a regular cyclical fashion. |
| Sloppy words | Not my most scintillating piece - but picks up one of my recurring themes, the careless use of technical terms and jargon |
| Picking the moments | Examining the origins of booms and busts. A follow up to the first piece. |
| Slow on the uptake, or what? | A real period piece looking at the then (1995) almost total lack of interest the Internet and related stuff in the property business. To put it in context, the company I worked for the year before I started writing (1994) had 200 or so staff - only three had an address, including me. . |
| On making a good impression | An attempt at taking a light hearted look and a commonly neglected aspect of business communication. |
| When sleep doesn't come... | Previously unpublished, an article I wrote about what it feels like to be made redundant - it didn't come out quite as I expected, though. |
| Can you keep a secret? | Comment on the damage done to the property market by formal confidentiality clauses |
| Where did it all go wrong? | Highly personal view of how and why the firm I used to work for failed (it got swallowed by a rival and only about four, out of 50 or so, people I worked with are still with it). With hindsight, perhaps I was a bit soft on some people |
| More on property cycles | A follow up to my first piece. A lot of people were arguing for complex econometric models to plot 'the property cycle'. I disgreed. Still do. |
